I started smoking when I was 10 years old. The babysitter wanted to smoke and made me her accomplice so I wouldn’t tell anybody. I continued smoking until 2010.
It was a very hard habit to give up because I really, really enjoyed it. Everything else about it is bad except for my enjoyment.
The thing about cigarettes that people don’t realize is it is not a tangible item that you can just put aside and be done with. Your cigarettes are with you when you’re alone, when you’re in a group setting, when you’re hungry, when you’re full, when you’re happy, and when you’re sad. They become a part of your life more than just this thing that you do.
I decided to switch over to vaping not only for health reasons but also because the price was getting too expensive for me to afford. I smoked about a pack and a half a day and if I had cigarettes available they would be used. The first day I received my e-cigarette, I had three traditional (analog) cigarettes. The hardest ones to give up were my morning coffee and after I ate. But to cut down to three cigarettes from a pack and a half a day with this little device was amazing to me. Over the weeks it got to a point where I liked the flavor of my e-cigarette better than I liked the taste of my cigarette. And that’s how I transitioned 100% to vaping.
My doctor once said I had the lungs of an 80-year-old. I bet he cannot say that now because I have full lung capacity, no more choking or coughing even when I laugh.
I have become very passionate about the harm reduction that e-cigarettes offer and also an advocate for education.

I started smoking late in life. I think I was about 31. I smoked for many years after.
One day I was getting my car serviced at the dealership and the service manager was puffing on what looked like a cigarette but wasn’t. I started asking him about it and got the website for an e-cig company. I placed my first order and within a week or so, I quit cigarettes completely. This was in 2010.
I became heavily involved in the online vaping community. I did a weekly webcast, teaching people how to make their own e-liquid & having a lot of fun. Melissa saw me on my show and we started communicating. She moved here from Arizona to be with me. We were both able to stop smoking with e-cigs and decided to start a store selling e-cigs because we believed in the product, and thought we could help people. We wanted the store to be a comfortable space where we could take the time to educate people about vaping and make sure they get what they need and know how to operate it safely.

True product knowledge means understanding the exact e-liquid ingredients and how they are formulated. At Vapor North, we pay close attention to ingredients—specifically evaluating the presence of diacetyl, AP (acetyl propionyl), and citrus oils—so you always know what you’re vaping.
Why These Ingredients Matter
Diacetyl and AP are critical because of their history in food flavorings and the potential health risks linked to inhaling them. Citrus oils require equal attention, as ingredients safe for eating aren’t always safe for heating and inhaling.
